Back in the Ink again!

Hello Stamping World!
Happy belated New Year! Yes, I have finally ended my hiatus from the crafting world. After nine weeks of recovery (I had rotator cuff surgery on November 23rd) I am slowly beginning to stamp again. To get motivated, I have pulled a few cards from a file and CASEd them. I forgot how relaxing stamping can be. I'm excited to try all of the new products that have been drizzling in from the mini.

     I have a workshop booked for next weekend and am nervous about putting something together that quickly... I am thinking about water coloring an image and framing it with the new framelits die. No idea for the second card LOL. These women are not newcomers to the stamping world so I will have to 'put my game on'!
      I hope the new year brings much love, happiness and success to all of you in cyber world!

New Experiences ...

Last weekend I visited my sister in Virginia and participated in a craft fair at her place of employment. I am so grateful for the experience. I learned so much about myself, the vendor world, and the connections between success and failure. I would not hesitate to tackle this endeavor with the knowledge that I have gained. I have a passion for people and love creating and maintaining friendships. What better outlet than the crafting world? Stampin' Up has given me the confidence to take chances and explore new ideas.

It's that time of year my body readjusts its' clock and I find myself thinking that it is far later than it actually is. It is so depressing waking in the dark and having few hours of sunlight. I feel as though I am in a constant battle with myself ... all I want to do is sleep. My sister arrives from VA on Sunday and I know that I will feel re-energized with her hear. I have a lot of crafting to get done before the 'dreaded surgery' in November.

While I was waiting for the photographer to arrive this evening I tried stamping some bottle magnets for my Uncle and played around with a few other ideas. I needed to distract myself since it was time to choose Senior Pictures for my daughter Sayde and I just am not ready to accept that it won't be long before she enters the world all on her own!

Envelope Bag - Gift Card Holder

The countdown is on ... two weeks from tomorrow I will be in my car and headed to Virginia! I am very fortunate to have a family supportive of my dream of finding a venue to share my card creations and crafts. I have been busy playing with paper, searching the cyber world for inspiration, and getting inky! These little bags were made with Stampin' Up envelopes. I used my favorite stamp set Snow Much Fun and Bashful Blue ink and ribbon. These can be hung from the tree with a gift card or treat, given to a coworker or used as a Secret Santa gift. So many ideas! I made several different designs and played with different colors! Let me know ... which one is your favorite?

Hello Friends ... Old and New!

It seems like a lifetime has passed since I visited my blog and shared my love of crafting with the cyber world. So many changes have taken place, not only in my desire to find my niche in the craft business, but in myself as I move forward in life. Things that used to seem so important to me now seem so trivial. Much of the change comes from caring for my mom. She is such an amazing woman. I watch her struggle daily to remain here with us and I think of what a selfless sacrifice she is making.

She suffers from chronic COPD and is on oxygen 24 hours a day, seven days a week. She has not left her home for almost two years (except for medical appointments). As I witness her daily weakening, a bit of me grows to appreciate life 'in the moment'. I realize I have wasted valuable time and energy in my yearnings for things I did not have. I realize that what I have, family and faith, makes me one of the richest and strongest persons in the world. I am learning to accept my weaknesses, embrace my strengths and yes, I am slowly learning to trust in God again. Thank you mom ... I Love You!

Hello Blogger Friends,

It has been forever since I've logged on and shared any inspiration or creativity. I thought that once I graduated from college I would have plenty of free time ... now I sit back and wonder how in the world I even managed to find time to do homework! Today, I decided that as messy as my house is (my husband is gutting the attic to insulate) it was important for me to pull a stamp set off the shelf, blow the dust off and and create something! So after mounting half a dozen sets that have been lying around ... I decided to lift an idea from Regionals in CT (I believe). Cam Meagher made a similar card with white on white and white ribbon. Here is my take:

I used the stamp set Word Play and layered the Card Stock to match the scallop circle. I played around with colors trying out Elegant Eggplant, Bashful Blue, Cherry Cobbler and Night of Navy. I used Whisper White ribbon on the Cherry Cobbler card and dies it by just sponging both sides with ink.

Workshop WOW card ...

I CASEd Frenchie

I have been struggling to come up with an idea for an upcoming workshop with a group of ladies who make cards weekly. What idea could I bring to them that would bring "oohhh's and ahhhh's" from them? Lacking for mojo, I turned to the cyber world and began searching ideas from the many talented individuals sharing their artwork. I found this card on a blog by an amazing woman named Frenchie from Wyoming (http://www.frenchiestamps.com/http://www.frenchiestamps.com/). I thought "why not give it a whirl"? I love it! Not only is it gorgeous but my bringing this card to my group it incorporates many of Stampin' Up's amazing products! It's a Win/Win! Thank you so much to Frenchie for her tutorial and her inspiration!

Hartford Regionals ... here I come!

I can't believe it ... the clock is ticking and I'm starting to get that tingly feeling. You know, the one you get before you step on the plane for Stampin' Up Convention!! I decided that since I attended my first Convention in 2010 as a first year demonstrator, i was going to attend Regionals as a second year demonstrator. I'm so excited. Now that I'm getting the hang of using the products and playing with the colors ... I'm ready to step on board the +ONE and reach out for some business tips. I need to recruit and have no idea how to even get started! They say Regionals are the place to go for support, knowledge and of course ... FUN!

This card was inspired by a card I saw on Ebay of all places. I just had to take out the Melon Mambo and Pacific Point colors to pop this card right off the page! What do you think? So simple yet one of my favorite creations so far. (I left them blank for regionals but my own stash has the modern label punch layered with whisper white greeting to coordinate to the Melon Mambo and Pacific Point.) I'm going to have to send in another Sale a Bration order because I want more, more, more of these adorable buttons!

Snow, Snow Go Away ....

It just has to be the weather... what else would deter a woman away from her crafting supplies? We have so much snow that you can only see half of peoples houses when you are driving down the roads as the snow banks are higher than the vehicles on the roads!! Blast Vermont snowstorms. The forecast says we are supposed to get another one beginning Thursday. I just want to hibernate until the flowers start peeping up through some green grass! LOL I have a tote filled with old card kits from workshops, demo meetings and more. I have decided that I am going to start mixing and matching and using up the supplies. My family is always needing more cards. This lot is one from a woman in Ohio that I played around with and came up with a couple of different ideas. Do you like the Regal Rose added to the card or just the basic gray? I would love to know your thoughts.

Hartford Regionals ... share and update

I am so excited that the Hartford Regionals are just around the corner. I have been looking forward to getting away after much stress and health issues over the past month. There is nothing to lift one's spirits than being surrounded by an extended Stampin' Up family. If you are attending ... let me know and we can look each other up!

I've been crazy busy lately. I was honored to be asked to make wedding cards for a woman I met through a mutual friend. How exciting that was. Then I finished card fronts and some 3d items for Regionals. Now to come up with an idea for some graduation invitations (anyone want to share some fabulous ideas?), and some Easter gifts! I am planning a scrapbook night with some girls on April 6th and this will be our first gathering. I'm a bit nervous but confident that I can put something together.

I'm so ready for our monthly Demonstrator meeting tomorrow evening at my upline Michelle Deslandes! My family of girls is my lifeline and they bring so much brightness to the dreariest of days. I hope they don't peek at my blog ... 'cause I'm sharing the swap that I made for them. The theme this month was a 3D Easter swap. I had so much fun making these cute little door hangers inspired by Andrea Walford. I ended up filling them with Easter grass and tying a bow around the boxes. I love them! After I finished I couldn't settle down so I whipped up some of these cute little Easter cards. I don't know why my camera messed up the color. I used the Ice Cream Parlor DSP from Sale-a-Bration again. It goes great with Rose Red and Marina Mist. What do you think?

Hartford Regionals ...

As the date draws closer to the Hartford Regionals, I find myself so excited. I get into this crafting mood and can't slow down. I managed to do 70% of my card swaps and made a few 3d items to share. I have never been to Regionals before so I have no idea what to expect. All I know ... is that any time spent with demonstrators and Stampin' Up family is a blessed time in my life!! So ... I'm addicted to making these 4x6 desk calendars. They were a huge seller at my craft fairs this year so after some quality time with my kids (yes, we went and saw Gnomeo and Juliet and shared some much needed laughter, junk food and family time) I whipped up some of these to swap. I used clear 4x6 frames that I found in a department store of all places. I struggled with the first two - taking out my favorite color combo of elegant eggplant and so saffron. I noticed I had a package of Ice Cream Parlor DSP & Accents from the Sale-a-Bration catty and started to play around. I love it! What do you think?

Stampin Up wedding ...

        I've sat here all day frustrated and lacking a bit of confidence. I was awed that an individual who I have never met before contacted me about whipping up some wedding invitations for her ... I mean, me? Really? So I was told that she wanted flat invitations around a 3 1/2 x 7 1/2 with pink and purple. I tried and tried to come up with something that I liked but to no avail. I changed the invitation size to 4 x 8 in Ellegant Eggplant and pretty in pink. Though the color combo is great ... for a baby shower or birthday card ...I just couldn't get it to work for these invitations. I finally contacted the bride to be to please sit down with me and give me a 'vision' of what she has in mind!! I was honest in explaining that I was having difficult coming up with a card that didn't look too 'feminine'. We talked for a while and I learned a bit about her ... I got over the hurdle of making phone contact (yay for me - LOL). She is a very sweet girl! She is coming over this week with one of our mutual friends to look at colors, stamps and 'feel' the paper etc. They asked I have a catalog ready!! I think this is another +One for me ... stepping outside my comfort zone! I have so much to learn! I look forward to your comments and thank you for sharing my journey with me!

Stampin Up' - more than just ink and stamps.

One of the ways that Stampin' Up has impacted my life is the manner in which it has brought family and friends into my life. Women who I've never met before sharing their talent and growth through inspirational blogs. My brother and sister-in-law stopped in today and I wanted to make a Valentine's Day care. She is a newbie - very little crafting or card making experience. I had pulled a sample from Convention 2010 that I wanted to try (there was no label on the back of the card so I can't give credit - sorry). She rocked it! My card is on the left and hers is on the right! Wowser!

Well it just wasn't fair that the girls were having all the fun so my son Caleb and my brother Jeff were brought to the table. They made cute little Valentine treats with the I {heart} Hearts, the Heart punch and some skinny bags! After they finished I had them 'exchange valentines'. What a fun time!

Another treasured relationship that has grown from my Stampin' Up business is the group of young girls that join me on the last Friday of every month. Now these
girls know how to get crafty! We made pinwheels, valentine treats and washer necklaces! I've learned to love their individuality and each one has blessed my heart!

Black and White

Black and white ... that kind of sums up the way I've been feeling lately. Some days I'm in such a dark mood. The Vermont weather has taken it's toll and moods seem to be plummeting. I decided that I needed to take a jump out of the snowbank ... and land in my crafting chair. Though I only had a short amount of spare time, I encompassed the moment and put this card together. I have to say that I felt like the sun had come out and my mood lifted the moment I had Stampin' Up products in my hand! I should have added some sponging around the edges. The new pinking hearts border punch rocks!

For the love of Family... Plus One

They inspire me. They support me. They listen to me. They make me laugh (sometimes until I cry). I am so blessed to have these beautiful women in my life ... yes, my Stampin' Up family! ""Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible -- the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family." Today we all got together for a shoebox swap and to share a bit of motivation with one another. What an uplifting atmosphere! We shared what SU's plus One means to each of us, enjoyed laughter and food and some pretty amazing projects! They are the reason I am a demonstrator and to each and every one of them I thank you!
My plus One's first goal was to get a monthly club established. Last night was the first meeting of my It's a Girl Thing girls club. It was a success! We had a blast not only crafting but sharing giggles and stories!

I feel inspired and ready to take on 2011. I'm going to dream big! Have a great weekend and watch for our shoebox swap projects coming this week!

Inspiration from the Stamp Doc

Life has certainly been challenging. I've finally accepted that the hard drive is gone and I have to revert to this laptop. The photos, tutorials and notes from my crafting friends over the past couple of years are of the past. I've decided not to fret as we know from life's lessons that you can never go back ... you can only go forward. That is my goal for 2011. To move forward. In order to do that I have to make things happen - they are not going to happen by my sitting back in a passive state wishing for them or dreaming about what could be. Tomorrow night is my step in becoming active. I am hosting a new monthly club for girls only ... It's a Girl Thing. I have eight girls signed up to attend and I am so excited. The girls are making valentine heart treats, a valentine card, a necklace using washers, a pinwheel and their 'big' project will be this amazing Jr. Size legal notebook cover inspired by none other than the Stamp Doc. I am so excited.

I have a new club starting on the 28th for young girls, a demonstrator group meeting where we are doing a shoebox swap and a scrapbooking club starting (if all works out)! I found a cute little owl that Lynn Pratt shared (isn't she amazing?) so I played around a bit and made one myself. Whew ... what a week. I so wanted to get my craft savvy hat on but there were other plans in store for me. No matter what came within reach of my fingertips this week - it broke. The kicker in the pants for me was losing my hard drive on my desktop that has my life's history (and everything I need to complete year end paperwork for my childcare business). I had just worked on flyers that mailed out to customers to start various clubs and now I can't remember everything I put in the newsletters! Yikes! I'm excited to get things going in 2011 for my Stampin' UP business. I no longer want to be labeled a hobby demo! In order for that change to occur I need to lose inhibitions in contacting people and learn that it is okay to hear no, no, no ... because somewhere amidst those no's there might be a yes. There is only one way to find out! I believe that Sale - a - Bration is a great time to reintroduce myself and get some bookings!

While at Convention in Salt Lake City, UT this past July I came across the cutest little display of the color families. I managed to take a picture of this swap as one of my friends was lucky enough to receive one. I am looking for the creator of this swap. 2010 Highlights and It's all about the New Year!

My Upline (and treasured friend): Michelle Deslandes

2010 has certainly been a year full of moments to embrace and moments that left one full of unsettled emotions. I have learned much about myself - what drives me ... what my capabilities are ... what my dreams are ... and where I want to go in the new Year. I have been been very blessed to have had many opportunities come my way this past year. I was able to remain active as a Stampin' Up Demonstrator. Though it was challenging, my first full year as a Demo was a learning experience. Many individuals inspired my life and gave me support and inspiration to not give up. My Stamping "mom", Michelle Deslandes is one of the most special individuals to enter my life. She has become one of my very best friends.
In May, my daughter Sayde and I were part of the American Idol Grand Finale. What an experience for two small town girls from 'Redneck' Vermont! Our 'true colors' were evident from the moment we landed in L.A. We had never heard of these shuttle buses that bring you to your hotel so we spent two hours trying to figure out what our transportation was that was waiting for us. We arrived at the Beverly Hilton exhausted and a bit chilly (yes, it was colder in L.A. than it was in VT and this Northern VT girl didn't bring a jacket!) Nothing stopped us as we skipped down street and stopped within the first five minutes ... who knew L.A. could be dirty? It was not at all what we had envisioned from late night television shows!

The Vermont Girls in Salt Lake City, UT

It wasn't long after a return from L.A. that I was on a plane heading to my very first Stampin' Up Convention in Salt Lake City, UT. I fell in love immediately with the West. A group of VT girls traveled and stayed together. I can't remember having that much fun since I was in High School! I also met a cyber friend, Robbie Rubella by a chance bump in!

Another of the year's highlights ... I finished my Bachelor of Psychology with Honors in December! I never thought at 42 years old I would experience the joy of being a college graduate!

I have been so busy that time just seems to get away from me. I am in my final semester of school with just five weeks before I've completed my B.A. of Psychology. What a journey. I've been working hard trying to prepare for upcoming Bazaars. My house is filled with Reindeer poop, Snowman Poop, Magic Reindeer food, Pencil ornaments, frames and cards galore. I have almost depleted my all occasion cards and must soon get to work on them. I miss the blogging world but know that I will do my best to keep a line of communication until I can get back in full swing!

I think my fingers are permanently stained! I have been having so much fun playing with all the Stampin' Up supplies that keep trickling in my door! I need to behave before I start cutting into my kids xmas fund! LOL I have been tryin some new techniques that I keep hearing everyone rave about. Of course they look so much easier when I see what everyone else has created and then look at my end result! I ask myself how you all do it! I need to get my game on! The one thing I know that I excel at is making a mess! LOL I tend to cover the table, the floor, the counter and whatever extra tables are set up next to me! I finally booked my first party outside my home. I had five days to come up with what the girls are looking for ... 7 women who want two cards. They want new techniques. I decided to use the thumping technique with the because I care stamp set (and have examples from day of gratitude). I also decided to try the polished stone technique ... what a mess! My end results are included in the post!

Business Options and Christmas Fun

It may seem that I have taken a hiatus from the blogging world however I have been busy crafting away. In my small corner of Northern Vt I have struggled for over a year to book workshops and class events. I decided that I needed to seek a new vision for what I want to do with my Stampin Up business. Should I just give up and become a hobbyist? For those who know me well know that I am not a quitter (especially considering that I am working, raising a family and finishing my college degree!) I decided that before I throw in the towel I am going to try selling cards and craft items already made to friends and family member hoping that my name will circulate and something will bless my life (business aspect as I am blessed in every other way).
   So don't you just love the Greeting Card Kids Stampin' Up stamp set? I just think it is absolutely adorable and lifts my spirits every time I use it! I have noticed that I use Real Red and either Old Olive or Garden Green for my Holiday cards so I am going to challenge myself this week to step outside my comfort zone and try something a bit more dazzling. Play Break

Hi Friends!
    I've been a busy little Stamper! After spending way too much time with paper (and not the Stampin' Up kind), I decided to ditch the schoolbooks and get inky! What fun! I am addicted to making these cute little Hershey Nugget tins! I am hoping to use them as gifts for Christmas and as items in upcoming craft fairs. Stampin' Up's designer series paper makes coming up with eye catching themes such a breeze! Of course the first one took me a bit to get the measurements right but after that it was cut and glue! Don't you just love the Holiday paper this year!

After I was done with the nugget tins (for now) I decided to make some Reindeer Food since it was such a big hit last year that I sold out of the first craft fair. Such a simple project that kids and families love! I also discovered this cute little project for Rudolph's spares somewhere on the internet. I could pretty much remember what it looked like so here is my shot at making it. My kids thought this was just 'awesome mom". I had to laugh at there response - it sure made me feel good to get such a lift out of them.

I was in a group buy for these cute little test tube holders. Though the front of my gift card holder won't show up (I'll keep trying) I love Gretchen Barron's idea to make up these adorable holders.

Well, the night is young so I'm off to play a bit more. If I am taking a day off from all my responsibilities ... I'm gonna make the most of it!!

I've been CASEing

My absence has probably been noticed by few but for those who were wondering where I've disappeared to ... I've been overwhelmed by the talent and creativity that I've witnessed over the past month that I just couldn't help case'ing some of the cards that have wow'd me as I searched the internet for inspiration. Please know that I do not know the origin of the cards and hope those who inspired me will come forward and say "hey you case'd me" so I can give credit where credit is due. One of my favorite cards that I have made tons of is the Ornament Punch dangling from pine leaves. I actually found this card on Ebay and contacted the member who didn't hesitate to offer the names of the stamps used ... and voila I pulled them from a dusty shelf and set to work. I have to say this crafting time was long overdue. My stress level took a nose dive! Thank you my dear Internet friends for lifting my spirits!

It rarely happens but today was one of those days ... all of the daycare children fell asleep at the same time. Almost too awed to no know what to do withself, I almost didn't take advantage of the quiet time. There was no way I could accomplish anything before they all woke up ... or so I thought. I whipped out the new Candy Cane DSP and the Greeting Card Kids stamp set and whipped up this adorable holiday card. I remember seeing the color combination on another demonstrators website. I certainly made up for my lazy day yesterday! Though I cherish the time hubby and I shared without the kids, I always am thinking of the many things on my 'to do' list! I managed to get it all done with time to spare so I pulled out my crafting supplies and an old card that we made at my uplines (Michelle Deslandes)Holiday Stamp-a-Stack last year. This has to be one of my all time favorite cards and was a popular card to get in a few sales! I saved my Blush Blossom card stock from my retired stack knowing that I would need it for this very card! (Wish I had more).

Finally Friday and I managed to survive a crazy week. The weather was so hot ... and we were teased with the July heat that never found its way during the summer months. The kids were cranky from spending their days inside hot classrooms and it seemed quite the challenge to maintain any structure. As soon as the work day ended, I packed up some supplies and headed over to my Stampin' sisters house to play for a couple of hours. I was surprised that through all of our ahhhing and oohhhing over the Holiday mini and the catty, I managed to make some gift card holders. I also worked on some Santa cards that I will post soon!

Where does the time go? It's already September. The kids are back in school and the days feel shorter! Though we are being spoiled in Vermont with the summer weather we never got it is still important to keep sight of the upcoming Holidays! Yes .. the countdown to Christmas has begun. To kick off the MoJo, I joined a Holiday card swap on Sudsol. I just couldn't get a good picture of the card. This was my first card swap with other demonstrators and I was a bit nervous thought I was pleased with how it turned out!

As a mom, I know that I focus too much on all the wrong things my kids do and miss out on all the right things they do. I get frustrated with chores not done or with their disobediance. When I only see their sin, I miss out on the blessing that my children really are.

Genesis 1:31 says, "Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way." (NLT)

I love how that is worded, "excellent in every way". Our children are excellent in every way, in spite of how they act at times. They were made in Gods' image and he said his creation is excellent.
Do you think your kids are excellent? I know that there are many times that I don't see them as excellent.
I want you to join me in 30 Days of Excellent in Every Way in September.

1. Pray & ask God to show you ways in which your kids are excellent. If you are like me, you may have a child that is more difficult than others. This is the child that you need really need to focus on. Pray for that child & ask God to show you how that child is excellent.
2. Keep a journal if you like of what the Lord shows you about your kids. If you have a blog, blog about it & send me your link!

3. At least once a day, post an status on face book about how one of your children was excellent. Don't use their name if you don't want to, especially if they are on face book.

4. Invite your friends. Ask your mom friends to join us.

5. Use excellent words with your children. Tell them when you catch them doing something wonderful. Compliment them. Build them up with your positive, encouraging words!

Pulling out the supplies and playing around ... yup I've been stamping. I had prepared posts that were scheduled to update on my blog but apparently I did not do something right because I see that I am not showing my blog posts. I will play around with that later. Life has been so busy lately that I almost let time go by without stamping ... knowing that the best stress relief treatment is to grab some ink, stmaps and paper and PLAY! I have making a bit of Holiday cards using some card fronts that went around last year. I also pulled out one of my favorite stamps and some retired paper. I have tons of retired items and decided that they would be great to use for cards that I am giving as gifts. I just finished a box for a very special aunt who goes out of her way to help take care of my mom. I hope to post some of the cards and projects that I have made so that my blog continues to update. I also hope to figure out how to add my Stampin' Up blog favorites to the tab on my home page ... I'm just so NOT tech savvy!! I am off to browse and see what you have all been up to! It must be a sign ... this "WHY" statement that has been the center of everything for me lately. I was in a bit of a depressed mood today. Been feeling a little bit lonely and thinking I should plan some girl time ... with school preparations for all of the kids and getting ready for a weekend trip to the Great Escape I haven't been able to 'hook up" with any of the girls. It always seems that when I am in one of these 'moods' my upline, Michelle Deslandes, has a sixth sense. Not only did she call me today to check in and catch up, I also received a beautiful card in the mail from her today. There is no question WHY I became a demonstrator ... it's all about family and friendships. Thanks "My Me-Shel" for touching me with a bit of sunshine today!

Stampin' Up Family Fun & Sister Blog Candy

Family - it has come to mean everything to me. We celebrated Grandma Ovitt's memorial over the weekend and so much was shared about the foundations we build over the years. When I sat down at the table to finish my card fronts for a Christmas swap my youngest daughter Kaetlyn asked is she could make cards too. Before long three of the four kids were at the table sharing laughter (a bit of chocolate - a crafting staple in our house) and my heart just swelled. I found myself fighting back tears. and I reminded myself for the second night in a row WHY I became a demonstrator. I woke up the next morning to find a card and flower from my nine year old daughter waiting for me. I was a proud Stampin' Up mom!!

This picture of my family was taking during the outdoor celebration on Sunday. Myself, husband Blaine, son Ryan (21), daughter Sayde (16), daughter Kaetlyn (9), son Caleb (11) and son Steele (13). The Lord has blessed my life and to Him I am forever grateful!

Stampin' Up - it's a Family thing.

Discovering My Why ... I've been soul searching over the past few days. Our upline challenged each of us to write our why statement. I thought to myself "that's simple, I was buying the product myself so I might as well get a discount". Last night I was sitting at the table with my youngest child - 9 yr old Kaetlyn- playing around with some new stamps from the Holiday Mini trying to come up with a card front for a Christmas swap. My daughter whispered to me "can I stamp too Mommy"? My heart melted as I watched her eyes begin to twinkle as I slowly began to nod my head. It reminded me of the pitter patter I felt the first time I held a stamp in my hand. It was like a wow moment ... this is what it's all about. Building relationships and I knew that she and I were doing just that ... as mother and daughter. This moment, I realized was one to build on and I know that many more are in store for us. (I will post the card she made tomorrow - I don't have access to my camera ... I left it at the family reunion today - but don't tell my sisters or they'll induct me in their club -"Forgotten, Misplaced or Lost"! LOL

Stampin Up Convention Mojo and another semester behind me ...

Whew ... I haven't really had time to sit down and catch my breath since returning from my very first Stampin' Up convention. Utah was gorgeous and there are no words to describe Convention ... I will definitely strive to go again! I am just finishing up finals and only have one semester to go before I finally have my Bachelor's degree. This semester was the most challenging semester ... now that I am going to have a two week hiatus I'm ready to get Inky. We had a demonstrator meeting last night and after sharing the notes from Convention with everyone I felt energized. So I'm sharing the Christmas card I made for our swap last night!

I am still recovering from my trip to Salt Lake City. Never in my dreams had I envisioned such an experience. I was surrounded by 2800 talented and inspiring women, shared laughter and tears (yes - Shelli moves you to tears!), and discovered a part of me I had kept buried. The friendships and relations built through the art of Sharing what we Love is priceless and I feel a renewed passion and zest for things.

Too sticky to stamp?

It's hard to believe that only two weeks ago we were suffering unseasonably cold weather in Vermont and were threatening to turn the heat back on with highs in the 50's and low 60's. Today we are facing our first heat wave since 2003! I sat down yesterday to work on a few card fronts for Convention but found myself sticking to everything! LOL What a mess I ended up with! It was a tough decision but I decided to can it and take the kids out to the pool instead!! The party favor I am sharing was part of our demonstrator shoe box swap inspired by stamping sister Andrea Sharp. It holds eight Hershey nuggets though can be used for many other little gifts!

The two boys are cousins out cooling off for a bit in the pool yesterday. The one on the left is my nephew Chase and the one on the right my son Steele. Please keep Steele in your prayers as we have been visiting Vermont Children's Hospital regularly. He has stopped growing and we have been undergoing some monthly testing ... no fun!

Saturday and Sunshine

Finally ... the sun is shining in Vermont and I can hear nothing but laughter as my children and their friends splash about in the pool. The sound of a child's laughter is certainly enough to lift the spirits! I am blessed to have the pool in the yard ... it allows for me to keep a "mother's eye" on my children and it allows them the company of friends. I've been scurrying about reorganizing all of my new supplies and updating my files (my sister Marie (www.isomcre8tions.blogspot.com) calls me the Queen of Organization and my new SU family has followed suit. I need to know where all of my 'toys' are and everything has a spot, labeled and all! LOL I'm sharing a couple of photo's of projects that I made at our demonstrator shoe box swap a couple of weeks ago. The best part about getting together with my 'family' is the inspiration I always walk away with!

I have to say that my favorite project was taking a simple folder and recreating a card folio with it. Lift the flap on one side and fill with cards. Lift the flap on the opposie side and fill with envelopes!

After spending far too many hours trying to figure out how to post pictures and links to my blog I decided to sign up for BlogsbyHeather monthly maintenance program so that I can use my time to create and share! I have been working hard on preparing for my first Convention trip. I was like a little girl today when my badge came in the mail ... I just wanted to hold it and hold it! LOL

I just can't seem to keep track of time lately. Sayde and I returned from Idol with our internal clocks all out of wack. A week has passed and I am still trying to return to a somewhat normal routine. I am finding it hard to believe that we are in June and the kids will all be out of school in a week!! Then the chaos truly begins. It donned on me that I am doing a free class tomorrow night for a group of mom's who have children with disabilities. It will be a small group of women ~~ 8 to 10 at the most. I felt it important that these moms be supported and I can't tell you how excited they are. I scurried about tonight trying to put a few simple projects together and while doing so I found Angie Juda (Chic n Scratch) had this adorable envelope card on her videos. I pulled out some envelopes and a stamp set and voila... quick and easy.
   I also received a SU order while I was going. I wanted to put a special thank you gift in for this group because they scheduled a card class and placed orders. I whipped up a few Jr. Legal pad holders that used to be all the craze a year or so ago! I know that i could have given product as a thank you but in giving a handmade gift I hope to perhaps get another class!
   I'll do my best to keep up - it's time to begin planning my first Convention trip! Best to all you Creative Souls!

My Dream ... My Journey: One

Everyone has a dream. My dream is to someday write a book … hoping that its depth will awaken in you an understanding of a broken bond. Perhaps, just for a moment, you will take off the lens you are looking through and see – with your whole self – that what you are judging is not at all what it seems.

Many do not know our story. It is one filled with both blessings and curses. The emotions are still as fresh as the day two beautiful young children entered my life. Yes, I have two adopted children. They were born biologically to my youngest brother and his wife. Caleb was two years old and his sister, Kaetlyn, a mere nine months old when my family welcomed them into ours. We never had fathomed, even for a single second, that they were to become ‘ours’.

My brother struggled with substance abuse and ended up incarcerated for a short period of time. The children’s biological mother also struggled with drug and alcohol abuse and has spent the last nine years in and out of jail.

Caleb, who is now a vibrant 11 year old, suffers severe Reactive Attachment Disorder:

Today, perhaps more so than at any point in history, kids are apt to be separated, ignored, or neglected by their birth parents, shuttled between multiple foster parents and day care workers, or traumatized by physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. Even while physically present, some mothers are yet incapable of providing adequate care and attention for their children.
RAD kids have learned that the world is unsafe, and that the adults around them can’t be trusted to meet their needs. They have developed a protective shell around their emotions, isolating themselves from dependency on adult caregivers. Rather than depending on their parents or other adults to protect them, the protective shell becomes the child’s only means of coping with the world.
Dependent only upon themselves for protection, they come to see anyone who is trying to remove this protective barrier as a threat, not to their emotional well being, but to their very lives. They turn on those who seek to help them the most.
People require attachments with others in order to develop psychologically and emotionally. Attachment is the bond that normally develops between a mother and her child during the first few years of a child’s life. The quality of this bond affects the relationships that a person will have for the rest of his life.
Attachment develops in the early years of life when a mother responds to her baby’s cries by meeting its needs, appropriately feeding, consoling, soothing, and comforting, as well as keeping the infant safe from abuse and harm.
Fundamental to RAD kids is that they haven’t bonded and are unable to trust. They have learned that the adults in their lives are untrustworthy. Trust hasn’t worked for them. Without trust, there cannot be love, and without love they are emotionally underdeveloped. Instead of love, rage has developed within them.

In the first few years of life, at a time even before they have learned to speak, they have learned that the world is a scary place, and that they cannot rely on anyone else to get them through it.

Normal parenting doesn’t work with RAD kids. Neither does traditional therapy, since these therapies are dependent upon the child’s ability to form relationships that require trust, something that is at the root of the problem. Sticker charts and behavioral programs don’t work because the RAD child doesn’t care what you think about his behavior. Natural consequences work better than lectures or charts. Structure is a necessity, but only when combined with nurturing.
While these kids can be healed, they have to want it, and the prognosis is not good. Without healing, these kids grow up unable to form healthy relationships with other human beings. Too often, these kids develop into sociopaths devoid of conscience or concern for anyone other themselves.
Yes, I cry myself to sleep every night. As a mother, it is difficult knowing that I can not make my little boy ‘all better’. I will pray that the Lord guides me as I continue this journey.

Happy Monday! I think I must be setting a record for myself as far as posting on my blog. I love my break from school - though it is only for two short weeks, I am taking advantage of the time to post and blog hop!

I managed to complete another milestone and will finally be promoted ... Supervisor! I couldn't have made it this far without my Stampin' Mom, Michelle Deslandes and my Sister Marie Isom. Thank you both!

These pictures are from a monthly meeting. My Stampin' family is so talented. The first photo is a tissue box decorated by Michelle Deslandes.

The flower seed packet is a project we all did out our Convention meeting. I love all of the creations you can put together with a single envelope.

The very talented Lynette Fresn made this toilet paper album. I fell in love with it immediately! She used a hunting theme - her son's first turkey. The pull out tags were a perfect way to share the moment.

I'm anticipating a busy week. My daughter and I leave for Hollywood one week from today! I won a trip to American Idol! My interview will be on Fox 44 news tomorrow night at 10 p.m.

Blogging bonds ...

There are times in our lives when we feel all alone even when we are surrounded by others. We laugh, but are not sharing in the laughter. We hear, but we are not listening. We are lost in our own measure of time. Today, however, I found myself believing... believing that everything in my life has Purpose. I went through ups and downs, trials and failures in order to become stronger. I was chosen to parent two more children because He knew that no matter what, I would make the sacrifices I needed to nurture them and love them. I often wonder if visitors even read the blogs we post or if they just click a picture that appeals to them. Today, I found faith through the blogging world and I send a big thank you to Rebecca (http://scrappywonder.blogspot.com/). I love visiting her blog and when I arrived there this evening there was a post titled: For Samie (check it out). She made this beautiful card that lifted my spirits.

Nothing happens by chance, my friend...

There have been days I've wondered what my life would be like had these two beautiful children not joined it? Please don't gasp. I am sure I am not alone when I say we map out lives and get settled in. Some change we just can't anticipate. Nine years ago something happened to change my entire life - God brought these two children into my home - biologically born to my sibling. Circumstances brought them to me ... and I became their stability, their hope, their provider, their caregiver ... their Mother. Tonight I sat at the table twiddling some craft items around and my son, Caleb, approached me, stopped and said "Mom, I will craft with you so you are not alone"" His words meant more to me than can express. It was those his words came from Him, saying to me that He hears me. He knows my heart - and he knows it is filled with love! Some day perhaps I can share my story.
My son Caleb (11) and daughter Kaetlyn (9) made these cards on their own. They learned how to measure and cut, stamp and color ... and I am one proud mom!

I remember growing up and feeling emotions that were so conflicting. I knew the sacrifices that my mother made raising six children alone. Still, I was pained with jealousy of not fitting in. I didn't have the name brand clothes or money in my pocket. I felt jilted and at times even angry. It wasn't until I became a Mother myself that I truly understood sacrifice. I realized that my mother may not have given me material things but she gave me a heart filled with unconditional love. I would not be the person I am today without her guidance and acceptance - her unconditional love. People tell me that they are amazed at my giving heart and how they can't believe how I "do it all". What they don't understand is that my zest to love everyone and my need to help everyone is my mother speaking through me. This past year my mother became ill and called me to come over and call an ambulance for her. She was having difficulty breathing. As I watched the ambulance pull away from her driveway I knew that I could not move forward should she not return home with me. She did have an overnight stay at the hospital and returned home on Oxygen. I dared not leave her side in fear of losing her. I know that the Lord blessed me when he gave me her as my mother and that the trials He put us through were so we could truly understand and communicate our love for one another. My mother is my best friend, my confidante, my lifeline. I honor her today and every day!

Garden from the Heart play!

Even with all of the loads of laundry, housework and dust layers, I managed to remain relaxed most of today! The stress from having deadlines and research papers was absent and it felt so good. Though the break between semesters is only two short weeks ...I am going to enjoy every minute of it. I decided to clean up some craft piles and my excitement of having stamps in my hand with no "must do" overwhelmed me and I found myself sitting down and making a few cards! I am not sure where I found this card but I loved it and wanted to play around with it. Here is what I came up with! (If you are my inspiration please send me a note so I can give you credit!!)

Though each card looks similar, each one is a bit different.   I love the color combination: Barely Banana and Perfectly Plum. The stamp set is Garden from the Heart! Anyone that loves gardening is going to just fall in love with this set!

Stampin' Up Bird Punch - a must for all crafters!

It done .... another semester of school behind me and the end that much closer! What a tough semester. So many unexpected curve balls. I've managed to remain intact for the most part. It is sad to sit back and reflect on the last few months. I see how much life and its effect on my emotional well being has inhibited my creativity. I hope to find myself back in the swing of things ... and soon with my first Convention trip around the corner. I am worried that I will not be able to complete my card swaps and 3d's before it's time since we won't know what is in the new catalog. How do you all do it? Do you have any pointers to share?

I am not sure who I cased this card from. I have so many images saved on my computer. Since this is my first year as a demonstrator I just saved photos all in one file. I will begin labeling with names so that I am able to give proper credit where it is due.

Stampin' Up blog is back ...

I have to apologize for being MIA lately. I was working on my blog trying to figure out how in the world all you bloggers add links to your sidebars. In doing so, my blog disappeared. I decided to log on and was prepared to start from scratch when... voila! My blog is here! I am not sure I am going to attempt to add links until my sister Marie is feeling better and I can beg her to help me out!
I woke up early on Monday morning and decided the house was quiet and it would be the perfect time to whip up a card or two. I made the first card and thought "wow, that's plain" so I played around with the Beary Best stamp set and tried a couple of different layers.
This is my final week of courses - definitely stressed to the max trying to get finals done. I have two weeks off and then it's back for Summer Semester. I applied for a waiver for the Internship requirements and would appreciate prayers that the college accepts my application. I really want to graduate in December and have put every ounce of energy I could into getting there!
I hope all is well with my fellow bloggers! I will catch up on blog posts soon!

Did you ever have something so unbelievable happen to you that you can not seem to figure what is real and what is not? I was having a pretty rough Monday morning - the youngest two daycare children were super fussy throwing off our preschool time so the four and five year olds were running amuck. My phone rang just as I was getting the 7 month old to sleep the phone rang. I cursed under my breath at the timing of the phone. Barely audible, the answer machine was mumbling something about Fox44 news. I continued with the day and it wasn't long before the phone rang again ...ugggg, the school telling me I need to go pick up my son that he was being sent home for the day ... I finally managed to catch my breath at one point and remembered that I had a message on the machine. I hit the play button, "Hello, this message is for Samantha Ovitt. This is Dave Rawson with Fox 44 news and we have good news for you. You are the lucky winner of Fox 44 Simon Says American Idol contest ..." I laughed, jotted down the number and was preparing to call back. "Not funny today", I thought. I quickly dialed the number and got an answering machine. "This is Samantha Ovitt calling back and I want to know Is This Legit???". As I was preparing to hang up - still moody and looking for an outlet. "Hello, hello? This is Dave." I won't bore you with the rest of the conversation ... I will say that I hung up the phone feeling a bit uneasy. I had just won two tickets to a live viewing of American Idol on May 25th - all expense paid! I called my husband at work still shaking. He said, "you're taking Sayde right?" I paused, and he said "I wouldn't have it any other way". Sayde is one of our five children who just celebrated her 16th birthday. I have so many days where I question where we stand in his life and moments like this tell me that we are right where we need to be! I made this frame for him today - I printed the lyrics to You're the Inspiration and added some photo's, ribbon and gems (all Stampin' Up products). I hid this in is desk area so that when he opened the doors to access his computer it would be there for him. My way of saying thank you for all you do and all you are.

My 'Award'

I remember the first time I met her. My friend Deanna asked me if I wanted to attend a craft night with her. I had become a CTMH consultant and thought this would be a great outlet to learn some new techniques. I received a sincere welcome when I walked in the door and new I was embarking on something amazing. The chatter and laughter was such a lift to my over-stressed spirit. That was a year and a half ago and the hostess is now my Stampin’ UP upline and a very dear friend.

When I first made ‘the switch’ to Stampin’ Up last July I laughed at how new demonstrators called their uplines their “mother” and the other members of the team their sisters. I have a clear understanding now. Stampin’ Up is so much more than crafting … it is truly a family in every essence of the word. Michelle Deslandes is more than my upline. She is the bound that holds us all together. She is inspiration with a passion that lifts our discouraged hearts.

This week Michelle held a monthly demonstrator meeting during which she presented her downline with ‘awards’. It touched me beyond depth. She made us individualized bracelets (from the SU collection of course!) and each bracelet had one charm recognizing our accomplishments. For every recruit and every promotion we receive a charm … mine had two! I hope that she knows how much she is appreciated – not for the ‘gift’ but for letting us know she is there for each and every one of us … to guide us and help us reach our goals!

We made these cards under her guidance and then shared some show and tell and a card front swap. My “sisters” gave me permission to post their work on my blog so I will be sharing their amazing talent with all of you!

Re-entry into the craft world and Reflection

Almost ready to run from the daily responsibilities of life ... I sat down last night and decided that time for me was as valuable as time for everyone else. So I made a card and felt this heavy weight being lifted ... now I understand what it is all about! I've been busy with work, school and caring for my mom and I've neglected my blog which is something I hold very dear and have challenged myself to get to 100 followers in 2010. After my daughters Sweet 16 tomorrow and a weekend getaway with her a few of her friends I hope to return refreshed and ready to take on that goal!

The more we play ...

What an emotionally exhausting week. Pneumonia has hit hard in our little corner and after caring for sick kids, sanitizing and sanitizing and sanitizing, working, doing schoolwork ... I needed some GIRL TIME!! I got together last night with a few friends. We chatted and laughed and even managed to craft a bit!! Nothing to lift your spirits like crafting with the girls. My Stampin' sister Deanna showed us how to make roses from the Ornament punch ... she had seen this on the internet. I'm not sure how often I would make these as they are big for cards or pages ... what ideas does everyone have to use them for? I also played with my new favorite stamp set Abundant Hope ... it complements the Tea Party DSP perfectly! I can't wait to sit down and play again. Though we started at 6:30pm and didn't end until 10:30 pm - we chatted and shared ideas, product favorites etc. more than we managed to actually craft! I wouldn't trade times like that for anything! True friends are like family and time with them is to be cherished!

parenting ... one tough job

Today was one of those days that i just wanted to quit my job! How had I gotten here? Where had these feelings come from? Anger, frustration, desperation ... and most of all fear. After almost 'losing it' today I ran out the door, jumped in my car and just drove! So many emotions surfaced. In just a single moment I realized I was completely alone - tears streaming down my face and the need to 'let it all out' and I had nowhere to go and noone to talk to. I wanted answers ... why was I being punished so? I am a good mom - I have five beautiful children. I felt the Lord blessed my life with them for a purpose. My life plan included three children however I was given the gift of two more children through adoption due to unforseen circumstances. My youngest son has Reactive Attachment Disorder and ADHD. If you do not know what attachment disorder, I encourage you to do a quick search). My second to youngest son has ADHD and chronic depression - so days can be quite challenging. I have been able to see beyond the behaviors understanding that they are not intentional but today I just fell apart. After a couple hours in the car and a quick visit with my mom I was ready to return home. I was reminded of a quote I keep near to me: "when you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place." I realized that running from this problem was teaching my children to do the same! No matter how many times in the past I felt like giving up, I reminded myself that I was the voice for these children, I was their teacher, their inspiration and their foundation ... "our greatest glory is not in never failing, but rising up every time we fail". I have risen!

Girls night ...

I needed a break! So my upline Michelle Deslandes and my Stampin' sister Lynette Fresn came over and we made a few cards (because I always manage to chat more than I craft!) My upline shared a beautiful card using the new Extra Large bird punch and I had to CASE it of course! I also Cased a card I saw on Splitcoast using the Ornament punch to make these adorable little fish! Anyone have any idea how to add bubbles??? The last cards was a five minute bday card! I need to fill a box with bday cards and have no experience with male gendre cards!

MOJO 130 ...

As much as I had to do ... I just couldn't walk away from this week's MOJO! Though my picture isn't the best, I actually enjoyed my creation. I managed to whip it up in about 20 minutes. I have to say that I am so missing my Nikon Cameron which I sent in to be repaired. I can't believe the difference in clarity. Of course my sister Marie (IsomCre8tions@blogspot.com) has shared a few photo taking tips I just can't get a good photo!

The Vermont weather has been amazing in the last week. We have managed to make some great syrup with the children the good old fashioned way. I love their excitement from the moment it is time to tap the trees all the way until they bounce in the door with their containers of syrup. We're thinking in investing in a small system for next year - it is a great family bonding time and we all know nothing tastes better than VT Maple Syrup!!!

Time change fog ...

What a way to start the day. I slept in! Yes, you read that right ... I rolled over and looked at the clock. I rubbed my eyes, 8:30 a.m. time to get some coffee and start my day! I made my way downstairs and as I was standing at the coffee maker I looked over at the stove ... 9:33 a.m.??? What???? I set the cup down and walked to my computer ... 9:34 a.m.! I slept in ...what a way to throw you whole day off! LOL I can't do time changes! It was a domino reaction after that. All day long I was chasing that hour ...

I did escape for a bit and head over to my Stampin' UP sister, Deanna Smith's to play for a bit. We only live a mile apart and just don't do this often enough anymore! (Of course when I got ready to leave I was quite proud that it was only 4:37 p.m. and I still had a few hours of the day left ... need I say that she hadn't set her clocks ahead and it was 5:37 p.m.!!!)

Those who know me know that I tend to use little DSP on my cards and scrapbook pages. I love to stamp everything! In order to step outside of my comfort zone I need to see what I can do with DSP when I am crafting. Here is what I came up with last night. Yes, I used the Abundant Hope stamp set again (have I said how much I love this stamp?) This simple card took me forever when most of you could have swhipped it up in minutes. I kept switching my DSP from one side to another etc. I will stick to my "Less is More" style and leave it as is!

MOJO Monday

Hi Friends!
I'm not really sure that this is one of my favorite cards. I wanted to pop on and post it just in case I don't get a chance to whip up another one. The Mojo cards I've seen so far are amazing! I do like the color combination with this card though I could have played around with the patterned paper a bit. I used soft suede and melon mambo and the Wings of Friendship hostess set.
Our household has been plagued with the flu and it really hit me hard. I need to take better care of myself as I am falling behind on keeping up with my blog, my housework, my homework ... everyday life!      Yes, it's true ... I've been playing and haven't taken the time to hop online and share with all my cyber friends. My apologies!

      I am so in love with the new stamp set Abundant Hope. What a versatile stamp set - perfect for so many different occastions. I'm thinking a perfect Stamp-a-Stack card! (Now to come up with three more!

Yikes ... is Easter really approaching? I was on Splitcoast and I saw these cute little baskets. I thought "wow" I only a couple of hours to whip of nine swaps - this would be perfect! So I whipped these up and the gals loved them! I have to perfect the "open basket" but the center is a quick play!

I made this card for a "pick me upper" for my mom who has been such a blessing in my life. I find that we fail to take the time to tell those who mean the world to us how much we love them so I put this in a bag of stuff for her to find <3!

I love these quick and easy soap (or lotion) bottles. They would be so fun to make a coordinating bag and give out as everyday gifts!!

Sneaky, sneaky...

This is Samantha's sister Marie with a : ). I'm being a little sneaky here, and Sam may regret that she gave me her blog password so I could give her blog a face lift (she's been busy with a thousand and one responsibilities) Anyway, I'm in Colorado and she's in Vermont and it makes me sad sometimes to be so far away from her. Today I received a wonderful box of goodies from her and amongst the other goodies, were a couple of things she has made. Now I know that she has posted a couple of these on her blog already, but I don't think her photos do justice to her work so I took a few photos and am posting them for her ; )

New Look ... New Day

The snow is still coming down hard. Travel is pretty limited to necessity as the Green Mountain State is blanketed in heavy, wet cover. The weatherman warns that snow is changing to rain and next come flood warnings. Gotta love Vermont! Feeling a bit stressed I decided to take a break and make a couple of cards to share. Lately I've been stumbling across various papers and color combo's that I thought I would never use or could not envision them on a card or project. That holds true for the Nouveau Chic designer paper I used on these two cards. Not thorougly convinced I liked this DSP, I was awed at the elegance it could bring to a card with very little additions.

A treasure

The first word that comes to mind when I think of my dear friend Michelle is treasure. I feel like I struck gold when i met her a little over a year ago. She has the most generous heart and caring spirit, a person I would not hesitate to pour my heart out knowing that she is listening without judgement. I am fortunate enough to not only have Michelle as a dear friend, but she is also my Stampin' Up Upline. This past Saturday she held an appreciation afternoon at her home for her downline and her workshop hosts. the afternoon was filled with laughter, food, games and prizes and some amazing Make and Takes.

With all that is going on with my mother's health and trying to care for her, my own family, work and go to school my heart has felt heavy and I often find myself alone and reaching for a hand to hold! The Lord knew what He was doing when he gave me this gift of friendship for Michelle has been there to hold my hand without even knowing it. I only wish that I pause and say Thank You more often! I did manage to surprise her with a little Friendship frame in a hand stamped bag.

Gum Party Favor ...

I can't believe it ... I'm posting for the second day in a row! Yikes ... that means I am ignoring those Statistics books. I spent too much time today searching for some gum treats I had seen made with the Two Tags die. I finally decided to just wrap the gum in a 3x3 piece of DSP and add a scallop punch. I can't believe my Mom and Me club is only 4 days away ... I'm usually so organized and prepared but with everything goin on I will be running around chasing my own tail. Oh how I wish I could clone me!! I have to remember not to carry the load alone ... to reach out and ask for help ... one of my weaknesses. Life's a lesson!

My Hiatus

Dear Blogging Friends,

I can’t believe how much time has passed since I’ve been present in the blogging world! How I’ve missed sharing in all of your lives. Much has happened to take me away. I am not even sure I could explain my emotional state. I have been struggling with acceptance. My mother is ill and though I knew the day would come when I would be sitting beside her hospital bed but no matter how much you feel you are mentally prepared for the moment, you never truly are. I spend a lot of my time without adult companionship … I have operated a registered home daycare for 11 years. My days are spent caring for children and my nights caring for my family. So here I was scared, angry, heartbroken and alone… I needed something … someone! And then I spoke to Him. I asked Him for comfort and strength. I asked Him for understanding. And in the stillness of the night I felt a gentle breeze and I knew He had heard me.

“I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. the angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.” ROMANS 8:38

I've been trying to pull some party favor ideas together for my second Mom and Me club taking place this Sunday. I have a wonderful response and am looking forward to a much needed reprieve from the daily life!

Waterfall

I have to say that one of the things I love the most about Stampin' Up is the support and friendship from other Demonstrators. I went to a Demonstrator meeting at my upline's house this week. We worked on goal setting and while we were there my Stampin' Up "mom", Michelle Deslandes, taught her downline how to make a waterfall card! These are so adorable and I must say I'm hooked. We also stamped Thank You cards to send to the soldiers who want to send them to friends and family showing their gratitude for the support they are receiving. I will post pictures of some of the cards later tonight. I'm thinking that I'm due for some Blog Candy since I have not done that yet. So watch for the post on my giveaway!

First tri-shutter card

Life has been so busy lately. It seems that no matter how hard I try to plan crafting time something always comes up and pulls me in another direction. I promised myself that whether the laundry remained unfinished, the dishes undone ... I was going to complete one card today. After carting my daughter around to find African ingredients for a project on Madagascar, spending two hours in the grocery and dropping some groceries off to my mom - I was exhausted. Still, I pulled out the crafts and tried my first tri-shutter card. I was so happy with how it came out. If I ever had some quality crafting time I might surprise myself with what I might be able to do!

Mom and Me Club fun

What a great day. I was up early and ready to get things in order for my first Mom and Me club meet. The guys got up and headed out for a "man's breakfast" and my two daughters were still gone from their sleepovers so I had the house to myself. I danced around sweeping and dusting while blasting Casting Crowns ... I'm not sure my dog will ever recover from that visual. I had five mother/daughter teams arrive for a fun crafting afternoon. The house was filled with laughter and bonds were created. The club was a hit and we booked our date for February! I am so excited! I needed a boost to get my business up and going. Now if only I could book a workshop. My goals for 2010 inlcude getting my first workshop booked and at least six to follow that! I know to many that sounds like such a small number but it would be enough to give me the confidence I need to keep going!

Craft Night with 'da Girls'

I've just been having too much FUN! Two nights of crafting with the girls - that's right 2 nights in a row. Thursday night I attended a Demontrator workshop and 3D swap which ended with a Show and Tell.

My upline, my "mom", Michelle Deslandes shared this top note bunny treat bag. At first glance, I thought this was 'above me' but a few punches, some paper tears ... and guess what - I can do it! My upline knows how to give me the confidence I need as a Demonstrator. That's what makes Stampin' Up the best!

I also borrowed her fancy favor box die and made a cute little bag - don't you just love the color combination.

The sale-a-bration products rock! They are so versatile and there is so much you can do with them. I wish every night could be girls night!

Ever have a card that you just can't get right?

Today was just one of those "off" days. I knew it the moment I rolled off the couch, tripped over my computer cord and landed on one of my cats who jumped up screeching and dashed to the table knocking over my morning coffee my husband had set there for me. Why I didn't just turn around and jump back under the covers still baffles me! It is now after 10 p.m. and I am finally settling down drained of all enthusiasm for card making. I played and played with DSP and these treat cups but have not come up with anything that really satisfies me. I am actually sharing a card that I made that I do not like at all. I suppose after a good nights sleep (yeah right) that I will wake with a fresh attitude and perhaps be able to put together something that makes me grin and say "that is it!"

You would think that I have been out of school for years rather than just a month's hiatus. I can not seem to get back into the routine of homework. I am usually a woman full of energy and known for my 'bubbly' personality. So why feeling so drag? I have so much to do to prepare for my very first Mom and Me club this Sunday as well as a demonstrator meeting at my upline Michelle Deslandes. I could not come up with a quick 3d project to swap. In searching the files on my computer, I found these cute little bunnies from last year. It was before my blogging days and I do not know who in the world I cased them from. I was pleased with how they turned out and managed to get them all finished tonight. My (almost 16 yr old) daughter fell in love with them and wants me to make some for her friends... in my "spare" time. It seems that since SU introduced their new website the blogging world has slowed down a bit. I have made a commitment to allow myself only ten to twenty minutes a day to sign in, see what's new and maybe add a quick post. All of you were my first inspiration and I am thankful for all the support I have found among you! Now ... to tackle a quick load of laundry and a chapter of homework.

Stepping outside ...

The house was so quiet this afternoon. My husband was in his usual spot in the house (his computer chair), my oldest daughter was shopping with a friend, my youngest daughter was gone to a sledding party and sleepover at one her classmates houses and my youngest son was spending the weekend with my sister. It was just my 12 year old and I moving about the house. After doing some paperwork and then settling down for some reading time (we are reading MAUS together) he begged for some PS3 time so I found myself weighing my options ... crack open a textbook and get a jump on the weeks homework, put the finishing touches on my year end paperwork, housework ... as I sat there I kept looking at my Stamping supplies. On a whim I decided to try to figure out how to stamp on a candle. I had seen some candles on Booth #32 while blogging and voila ... my creations. I love this technique. What quick and easy gifts you could make for people. Of course having great products (Vintage Vogue and Priceless stamp sets) win-win color combinations (Stampin' Up makes it so easy) how can you go wrong?!

I'm not doing well in keeping up here. The stomach bug has been running rampant around here. As soon as I get my house healthy one of the daycare families comes down with it and the fun starts all over again. I have a Mom and Me club beginning on the 24th of this month and I am NOT ready for it. Mother and daughter (grandmother/grandaughter or aunt/ niece etc.) will be making a Valentine card, a 12x12 page and a special 'treat'. Here's what I whipped up today. I used Real Red, Whisper White and Pretty in Pink Cardstock. Vintage Vogue and Simply Said stamp set, Real Red and Pretty in Pink ink and the new DSP Flamingo paper. I had a few ideas I would have loved to add but really needed to keep it simple for those who are new to stamping! Now off to play with a couple of card ideas. Thanks for stopping!

A few more douses of cold medicine and I'll be back in full swing! The kids are having snack before we finish up our preschool day so I thought I would take the fifteen minutes (literally) and whip up a quick Mojo card. I can't for the life of me get my photos to come out today! I guess I am going to have to invest in a photo box or find a new spot in the house to take my pictures. If I had more time I would have used the Big Shot and flower dies to add a layered flower to the top right instead of a brad ... this will have to do. Enjoy and here's to a crafty week my friends!

The FAB FOUR ... I talk about them all the time... my sisters! They are such a blessing in my life. From left to right - my youngest sister Jessica, Me, my sister Marie (you all know her from IsomCreations.blogspot.com) and the oldest Valerie. We are quite a team! A bond that is so strong it can't be broken. Though miles keep us apart we are always in each others hearts!

Just wanted to let you all know that I've been hibernating on the couch all weekend with lots of soup, tissues and cold medicine. It seems that the lovely flu has decided to creep through the cracks in this old house and take company with me. I hope it decides that to find a new home soon! (It has been nice getting waited on ... too bad I know all the messes will be waiting for me when I'm on the up and up). My kids got me my favorite Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream so I can let the mess go ... LOL I have visited many blogs while I've been 'down' and can not believe the amazing projects evolving from all of the new SU products! Congrats to everyone for their amazing work!

I just can't sleep. My friend Deanna came over tonight to check out all of my new goodies form the Occasions mini catalog. We had good intentions to get some crafting done but ended up chatting and going through the catalog and idea book. Deanna will become my "SU sister" within the next couple of days. We compared our inventories and decided to team up. I did manage to whip up a card while we were chatting. The sentiment is really hard to see but I absolutely loved the finished product!! Guilty as .... CASE'd !!

I could feel my heart beating faster ... so much on my 'want to do' list and so little time. I made a commitment to a card / post a day and here I was crunching time. What to do? Easy answer ... just case a card. I became a member of this group called Late Night Stampers and my inbox is filled with hundreds of ideas from some very talented women. While browsing I saw a card made with four hearts punched out of the new DSP from SU. Since I'm patiently awaiting for the arrival of my goodies I decided to take some Very Vanilla cardstock and stamp a background image. I then used an old heart punch that I had collecting dust in the other room to punch out the hearts. I believe her card used die cut leaves but again ... my supply cupboard was void of any such item so I just used the same stamp from Vintage Vogue and added some color in Old Olive around the hearts. Then a Firestone brad in the center and a sentiment at the bottom with a strip of stamped paper and three colored gems I had in storage. Voila ... a ten minute card and I could stop holding my breath because I wasn't disappointing myself! Thanks for the inspiration LNS!

My household is battling the stomach bug so a quick hop on the blog and then off to get a few zzzz's while I can. Months ago I saw a similar card on the internet while "playing" at a friends. She let me borrow her Flight of the Butterfly SU set and butterfly punch. Now these are on must have list. After placing my Sale-a-Bration order today I'm afraid hubby is going to Pay It Forward by parking a new ATV in my yard or something! LOL Thanks for stopping!

MOJO 120 with a twist?

I'm so proud of myself. Posting three days in a row is like reaching the top of Mount Everest for me. Looking back on 2009, I realized that I have to have more faith in myself. If I want to be truly loved then first I must truly love myself. Too often I remained invisible - afraid of not being good enough. I found myself comparing my cards and creative works to others constantly feeling as though mine 'weren't good enough' to share. One of things I've come to accept is that I am who I am. I create for me and I like what I create! I've accepted that my work, my values, and everything about who I am may differ from those around me and that's okay! Here is my twist on the first Mojo of 2010. I do wish that the picture were a bit clearer to show the detailed embossing and highlighting. I love SU's embossing folders! Of course I love anything SU! Hope you enjoyed your visit!

Snowed In ...

What a blustery day in Vermont. We have 24 inches of snow thus far today and it is still coming down hard. Stuck in the house should have allotted the perfect opportunity to accomplish something ... however, the stomach bug blew in with the snow and I was running children back and forth between bathrooms! I had hoped to get some housework done and then spend an hour or two crafting Higher Powers had something else in mind for me! I'm not complaining - I loved lounging with my daughter watching American Girl with her head nestled on my shoulder. Bitter sweet!

The holidays were a true blessing for me. My sister Marie flew in from Colorado, my sister Valerie flew in from Virginia and my brother and sister in law drove up from Myrtle Beach. It has been so long since we have all been together. My time with them made me realize how truly wealthy I am when it comes to love and support. Though all six children in the family (yes there are six of us!) are very different from one another we truly compliment in each other and bring such a harmony to the surface. I have decided that 2010 will bring a sincere determination to appreciate and value our individuality and to maintain regular communication with those who mean so much to me ... including my blogging friends. I am going to try my best to post a card or project a minimum of once a week. (My first goal was to post a card a day but decided I had better revamp my goals to ones more realistic since school starts back up for me in two weeks). I hope to blog hop and compliment others work as well build my business from hobbyist to active demonstrator! I know that I love the new clear blocks and stamps and hope my enthusiasm shows through my creative outlet. Best to all ... I'm off to blog hop!

It's only 4:30 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon and I find my eyes drooping. My body drained of its energy. I prepare myself to curl up with a novel ... after all I managed to get all of the holiday gifts wrapped today as well as laundry, dishes and a bit of housework. I close my eyes for a short rest when I am struck with realization. I never made the desk caddy for my sister who will be arriving from VA on Christmas night. I rush to my stash of paper ... yikes ... little is left as I've used most if for craft fairs and Christmas cards and gifts. I'm sharing with you what I was able to come up with - I really feel that it is missing something. What do you think??

Priceless Memories

Today was one of those days where I found myself smiling. I did not dwell on the wondering if my husband will be layed off today, tomorow or next week. Forget for a short time that I still have not figured out Christmas for my children and focus on all the good in my life. I have five beautiful children who tell me every single day that they love me. I have a roof over my head, my cupboards are full and my loved ones are well. I received a phone call today inquiring about two or three dozen all occasion cards being ordered and I had a wonderful evening celbrating the 21st birthday of my first born child.

SU - Forget Me Not Keeper

I can't believe how fast the days have passed. We are halfway through December and I am still trying to figure out how to get Xmas done. I don't think my children would be thrilled with handmade gifts under the tree! A while ago I watched a SU video where they used the Forget Me Not Keeper for a card box. I decided I was going to give it a whirl. To put my own twist on the idea, I decided to stamp the inside with Staz On. Once I did that I decided I didn't want to add embellishments all over. It looks so much better than the picture depics. I used the Calendar stamp on cardstock, reduced it so I could add a bit of design around the calendar. Winter Wonderland ...

Whew ... finally a few minutes to sit down and post a blog. Life has been a whirlwind of emotional challenges to say the least. We are experiencing some very serious concerns with one of our children and have been called into several 'emergency team meetings'. I feel my confidence as a parent and as a psychology major are being challenged to the very core. I have been in a very serious depression - yes, I'm sure the holiday season added to the bulk of things has had an impact. The craft fair went pretty well and though my items were priced very low I actually made a profit! I made a bunch of these cute little 'Maple Boxes' for my sister in Virginia and filled them with pure Vermont maple candies! I thought that they were perfect for her. I wanted to share my 'big seller' at the craft fair. I found a stash of these boxes that SU sold years ago before the dies evolved. I stamped on them with white craft ink and added a tag to them. Originally I filled them with Xmas candy. However, I was across from a Lia Sophia booth where a lady was selling all of her inventory at discounted prices. I overheard a comment from someone who made a purchase that she wished the jewelry came in boxes. I opened these boxes and emptied out the candy and voila - cute little jewelry gift boxes! Holiday Tags ... no more doggie days!

I woke up today with great optimism. The house had an unusual warmth to it. I sipped coffee in the solitude and thought about the past few days. I found myself smiling. Except for the incident with my dog (I still am trying to forgive her for the craft feast), I came to the realization that I have been very relaxed. Having a short break from school allowed for some quality time with my children - how precious those times are. I snuck into their rooms and found their jounals - small books that we leave notes to each other in and left them all a note at their place setting. When they came down for breakfast and found their journals they broke out in these great big grins - all a mother needs! After some holiday preparations, lots of silly singing and of course some candy canes ... I made a few bags of Holiday Tags for next weekends craft fair. They are in sealed totes I might add! I managed to also get a dozen Reindeer Food made and a few other goodies. However - all are tucked away where my mischievous dog can not get to them! Thanks for stopping by! Crafting away ...

After my cute little dog Izabelle (Izzie to most) decided to have my craft bazaar stash for her Thanksgiving feast I decided that I had to spend some time getting a few crafts done for next weekend! I started the morning by getting the laundry done, errands for my mom done and the tree in the house and up - lights and garland on but the decorations wait for family time tomorrow. I managed to bust out five sets of cards this afternoon. I cased this card from something my Upline brought back from convention. I am sorry I can not give credit to a particular individual. I went to a stamp a stack a month ago and we made these embossed holiday cards. I was in love ... I have become addicted to making these sets. I love playing with colors. I used Garden Green, Taken with Teal, Purely Pomegrate and Brillian Blue. My favorite is Taken with Teal and another set that I made with Elegant Eggplant. I can't wait to "play" again tomorrow. I have never tried the masking technique so I'm to search for a tutorial. Thanks for stopping by!

Doggone Dog ....

Thanksgiving started out as such a beautiful day surrounded by friends and family. Everyone seemed in good spirits. My mood has been so blah lately that time with my family was just what I needed ... and to make it even better my fibromyalgia was pretty tame! I came bouncing in the door with a smile on my face from my mother in laws and litterally dropped everything in my arms. I bet my high pitched shriek could have been heard for miles. My dog was pretty upset that I had left her behind. I had a tote filled with crafts for an upcoming bazaar on December 5th. My dog dragged all my crafts out of the tote and tore them to shreds. I cried ... so many hours of work! I wanted to jump up and down and throw a tantrum. My children saw how upset I was and came over and started hugging me. "We'll help you craft mommy"! My heart swelled. I'm so blessed to have such giving children.

Finally, the return of my camera! I could not believe it ... I hadn't heard anything from Nikon except a confirmation that they had received it! They repaired it and cleaned ... all at no cost! Now if I could figure out the settings I had previously used.

I decided to give this week's MOO a whirl. I have found that I love Chocolate Chip and Not Quite Navy together.

I loved receiving the Mini Occasions and Sale a bration today. I couldn't put it down. I must have looked at it twenty times. Stampin' Up really has exceeded my expectations. I hope Santa brings me money for Xmas ... lol.

Good news ...

It's here! My camera is back in possession! And just in time! I have had a very stressful week preparing for a Friday final and a Sunday final for school as well as the Friday evening event and the Saturday Craft show! I'm exhausted. Next week is a short week and I will have plenty of photo's to share! On top of the return of my camera ... I received and Induction into the Academic Honor Society for school with a framed achievement award and pin today! It excited my children to see that mommy's commitment to school was rewarded! How do you all do it? What's the secret? I am so worried that I will never be prepared for my "coming out" Friday night. I am participating in an 8th grade fundraiser. A bunch of companies are asked to set up demonstrator tables - they can bring product inventory, crafts, etc. I will be the only stampin' up demonstrator there. The goal is to get orders and donate a percentage of your sales to the fundraiser. I am so nervous. I need to make a form so that I can take names and interests down, prepare catalogs and order forms, come up with some crafts and cards to set out .... then I have to be at a craft fair at 8am Saturday morning. I fear I will not have enough crafts. I am looking for some quick, simple ideas. I used the top note and put these little treat bags together today. I think fear has me frozen! And I have finals on Sunday (did I mention my mother in laws retirement party is Saturday night?) Feel free to toss some ideas my way ... LOL.

Finally ... a successful day. I held my first stamp a stack for the holidays and had five women attend. My good friend was the only one who missed out and that is because she is pretty sick. It was ust what I needed to give myself a little confidence booster. On top of that - my step mother sold some of items at a craft bazaar at the southern end of the state. It's a start!!

I wanted to share this picture. It is an image that I stamped on SU cardstock (whisper white) and then stamped on white cardstock from another company. Big difference huh! Shows the quality of SU products. How this came about was I had a friend over helping to put some crafts together. She grabbed a piece of cardstock from a bin (not realizing it was my non SU paper). I kept thinking it was the ink so I tried three different Chocolate Chip pads and finally grabbed another piece of paper ... voila! A clear stamped image!!

Front Row Regional and Sister Sunday ...

My weekend started out so amazing. I headed out early Saturday morning to attend a Front Row Regional hosted by our SU Leader. It was so fun! I enjoyed my time with friends - the laughter and connections we shared touched me deeply. We started the day with a 3d swap, show and tell and then settled in for some great DVD workshops and heartfelt words from Shelli! I felt so relaxed ... of course it was short lived. I came home to a house full of mess and a sick girl. My youngest was supposed to have her 9th bday party today but woke up with a fever. So we had to cancel. So while at home I managed to pump out a customized order for my sister. 24 Honey of a Day and 24 Chocolate Bar slider cards ... (minus the ribbon and candy bar). If only I get my homework done in the same manner!
I'm trying to figure out how to decorate this simple cocoa card for the upcoming craft bazaar. I would love to hear what you have for ideas!

I am really stretching for time ... I need to whip up 3 dozen projects for my sister in VA, I have a card class scheduled for Nov 14th, a Holiday bazaar on Nov. 21st, a craft fair on Nov 15th and just got contacted to do a table at an 8th grade fundraiser on Nov 20th. For someone who has been unable to book a single party I dared not decline anything! Now mind you - I'm mom to five children, run a daycare and go to college... can we say panic attack??? Anyone want to contribute? LOL

I "lifted" this cute idea for reindeer food from Splitcoast. They are super cute and so easy to make. I'll be back to get feedback on a card that holds a packet of hot cocoa mix. Not sure I like it ...

Can't decide ...

I ordered these cute little memo pads - they are the size of a Jr. Legal pad cut in half. I remember seeing somewhere a project using them for a wishlist / shopping list type of project but spent far too long searching the internet trying to find it. I ended up covering them in what looks like a long card and decorated the front. I stamped Christmas wishes on the front of the pad of paper. I am not sure if you can tell but each one of these is different. I had to come up with a 3D holiday swap for this weekend and this is what I'm using. I ended up choosing the one on the right which has not ribbon - only paper. Thoughts?
